Hello everyone - Erin Singleton here. I'm the newly appointed curator at West Ox Arts and I couldn't be more excited to be part of things here!

I thought I'd take a moment not just to say hello, but also to offer a bit of background on who I am and how I came to be associated with the great West Ox Arts gallery.

I am a mixed media artist with a focus on collage and assemblage. I studied illustration at the Delaware College of Art & Design in Delaware, USA and although I have since shifted my focus to the fine arts, my affinity for illustration and story-telling is still evident in much of my work, which is also reflective of my penchant for nostalgia. I have been involved in several group and solo exhibitions throughout America and England, and am excited to share my passion for the arts and experience in art education with West Ox Arts. The Earth Education Project

WOA member and artist Sophie Argles has now become the artist director for the Earth Education Project.

The Earth Education Project (EEP) based in Nicaragua is a social enterprise greetings card company. Our cards are hand-made from scrap paper that we have recycled by handm, deigned by me and then decorated with different recycled materials by the woman from EEP.

The local branch of Cancer Research UK is looking for designs for a Christmas card which will be sold this autumn in the run-up to Christmas. All proceeds from the sale of the cards produced go directly to the Churchill Hospital, Oxford. Production costs and printing are all donated by sponsors. Sue Lashmar who works with fused glass is our featured Artist from the ‘Not Just Illustration’ exhibition.

'Collective' featuring Sue Tarbitten

Sue Tarbitten will be taking part in "Collective" an upcoming photography exhbition which is showing at Ayscoughfee Hall, near Spalding in Lincolnshire from 2 - 27th February 2011. Since September 2010 Sue has had two embossed prints on display in one of the Hyde Park One apartments in London.

Joker in the Pack

In addition to photography Graham Bishop writes novels and have just uploaded an eBook to the Amazon Bookstore. It is available to anyone to down load to an eReader. The title is Joker in the Pack and is in the Crime section. It is a spy type novel about the consequences for a Cabinet Minister who asks for the file MI5 kept on him when he was a student radical. He attempts to discover the identities of the people who informed on him in the past and receives threats from one who does not want to be unmasked. The action takes place in London and Prague.

One of WOA's members Jenny Eadon is having an exhibition at Clare Hall In Cambridge. The exhibition will run from 1 April - 8 May. This exhibition will be a large showcase of abstract oil paintings. Jenny will also be exhibiting at WOA in February in the 'Seeing Differently' Exhibition. This will be a large group exhibition of some of the county's top abstract artists.

A unique exhibition comprising the work of thirteen image makers. The ‘Not Just Illustration’ exhibition honors artists from around the UK who have explored different ways in which to showcase their imagery. The variety of styles and themes that are explored range from textiles to wood engraving.

The collection starts with Richard Evans who is best known for his iconic images that have graced classic album covers for various artists including The Who, Van Morrison, and Robert Plant. Johnny Bull who is known mostly for his colour-drenched images that celebrate locations and people that inhabit them. He’s a unique presence in British art and his popularity is slowly widening. Grace Gallagher who’s prints explore the similarities and differences between the creative process and the academic one, focusing closely on Mathematics. Pete Lawrence whose prints are engraved on Resingrave, a synthetic material designed especially to replicate the quality of boxwood, his prints are collected in the SWE/Ashmolean Print Archive.

Other artists include Sue Lashmar who explores illustration within the unusual field of fused glass. Gill Gilroy’s coherent surrealist illustrations. Will Clarkes screen prints, his detailed line work depicts the intricacies of urban landscapes. P.S Design Agency specialize in producing one off hand crafted design. Etchings by Flora McLachlan inspired by medieval poetry. Margaret Charlton’s 3d textile balls work around and into a subject with drawing, photography, wrapping and stitch. Katy Hudson’s playful illustrations. Specializing in embroidery Victoria Croker gives old fabrics new life, evoking the emotion of reminiscing memories. And finally explore three dimensional lettering with Alice Saunders’ carefully drafted works which are bursting with 1950′s pop images in a collage of pattern and colour.

This exciting exhibition showcases illustration but not as you know it.

Saturday 18th December Jan Ritchie, Justine Sutcliffe and Amanda King all studied textile design at Derby and now live in the Witney area. Jan specialised in printed textiles, Justine in woven and Amanda in knit. Following a successful Artweeks exhibition in the summer, they have decided to open for the first two weekends in December. If you're in the Witney High Street area, call in for a little calm!

The Oxfordshire Craft Guild, which includes many WOA Members, will hold its annual Christmas Selling Exhibition in the Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock. 37 Members of the Guild, including ceramics, glass, jewellery and silversmithing, textiles, papier mache and wood, will be exhibiting their work. Ideal for Christmas presents from £5. alternatively the new OCG gift token makes an ideal present for the relative or friend who would prefer to choose their own gift.
